The History of HAMCON

HAMCON is an Amateur Radio organization formed several years ago to coordinate the Los Angeles area, ARRL Southwestern Division Convention once every four years.

This convention is held each year in a four year cycle. The cycle is at Los Angeles, then to the Phoenix, AZ area, next it is held in Riverside, then   in San Diego, and then back to the Los Angeles County Area.

The Southwestern Division encompasses Southern California and all of Arizona. This is an official American Radio Relay Leaguer (ARRL) Convention. This will be one of the biggest Conventions in Southern California you don't want to miss.

HAMCON is made up of ARRL affiliated clubs in Los Angeles and Orange sections. Board of Directors from the participating clubs plan and perform various functions necessary to make the convention a success.

A speciel Thanks goes to all the Clubs who particepated in a great deal of their time and effert, making HAMCON a successful one every four years.

For those who are new to Amateur Radio, or have never attended one of our conventions, please sign up. What you need to know and to get started in Amateur Radio is at the Convention. 

The convention is a great place to meet all kinds of Hams, and maybe the ones you have talked to on the air. Meeting new friends, and getting together with old friends. Hams from all over Southern California and Arizona were there, and mayby a few from outside the US.

Ham radio manufacturers, Dealers were displaying and selling their latest radio equipment and accessories, including all kinds of Antennas and accessories.

We find expert speakers in many fields, that are kind enough to share their years of experience. 

Throughout the weekend there will be technical talks covering just about any aspect of Ham radio that may interest you.       

The W1AW will have their radio station set up on the air at the convention. If you decide to make some contacts using the W1AW/6 from their radios, you will receive a nice operating Certificate for having done so.

There will be a luncheon and a Banquet Dinner on Saturday evening, and a breakfast on Sunday morning. All three of the food functions will be an additional fee with limited seating, so get your reservations in early. Each of these functions will have a guest speaker.
