VE Testing at the Convention

Testing will start on Saturday the 10th, at 8:00 a.m. and testing ASAP and the last seating by 10:00 a.m.

Testing will end at 12:00 noon, (tests collected).

Those taking multiple elements should be prepared to begin right at 8:00 a.m.

Applicants must have their original, plus a photocopy of any licenses or CSCEs, and a photo id, such as a school ID card or a drivers' license.

For new Technician licensees:

As to the Social Security Number, an applicant can go to www.fcc.gov and apply for the FRN ahead of time. You don't need a ham license to do this. Otherwise, a SSN needs to be provided.

The Social Security Number will be collected - please be prepared to supply it on the 605 Form - it will not be saved or recorded by the VE team in any way, but will be forwarded to the VEC. For existing licensees, (upgrade only), your FCC FRN number will be required instead. Recent licenses have the FRN printed on them. If you have an older license, then visit: www.qrz.com , enter your call and click "Detailed Info."

605 Forms will be available at the test session beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Applicants should bring pen, pencils, erasers, and if they wish, a non-programmable calculator. No study materials or visitors will be permitted in the exam room.

The VE Test fee is $15.00. Checks should be made payable to ARRL-VEC.

People who are coming ONLY for the test session (but not to the convention) will NOT BE REQUIRED to pay the HAMCON registration fee. This one fee covers Technician, as well as any or all upgrade elements taken, (no retests).

The testing sessions will be on the second floor of the hotel in the Mediterranean Room (you will need to take the elevator up and then go to your left).

PLEASE NOTE: If special accommodations are needed, a week in advanced notice is required.
Please e-mail the test coordinator at wa6yeo@arrl.net  for more details.

If an applicant misses by one or two questions, one retest only will be permitted, (additional fee required). If three or more are missed no retest will be permitted. Retest hours are 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., (tests collected by 12:00 Noon.)

NOTE: ARRL members may have administrative changes (renewal, change of address, etc.) handled at this session and the $ 15.00 will be waived.

Please contact the VE Administrator, Adrienne Sherwood, WA6YEO at wa6yeo@arrl.net  if you have any other questions.
